At the Starting Line
The biggest sailing weekend so far this year for SSS sailors starts this weekend with the Cherry Pie Regatta on Saturday, Feb 12 followed by the SailMonster BOTY Pursuit race on Sunday. Pull that ship of yours off the mooring, dock or storage lot and get out on the Bay for a great weekend. Click the links above to see the NORs.
Off to Venice!!! Put a sail on that Gondola and go South!!!! The annual Venice Windjammer is less than two weeks away. Let’s get a great SSS showing for this event. The Venice Yacht Club is a very gracious host that allows SSS participants to Swim, Shower, Shave (if necessary) and Party at their great facility. Weather permitting; I hope we have over 20 SSS skippers enjoy this event. The entry fee is only $25.00 and you will get that much back in goodies!!!
“Shape-up and Ship Out Marathon Series” will begin in February. Earn your Squadron Marathon T-Shirt when you complete at least 26.5 miles over a three month period. The information for participation can be found here!!!!
RC Sailing!!!! Any interest???? I have recently been introduced (I watched) a number of RC (radio controlled) sailboats being sailed on a pond in Palmetto… They ranged from quite large boats to a really neat boat called a “Micro Magic” sloop. This boat fits in your car and 21” long, 7” beam, 38.5” high and weighs in at just two pounds. The “Micro Magic” takes less than two hours to assemble (maybe a bit longer). The carbon fiber mast and boom does not come cheaply….. With radios, servos, receiver and boat you would be investing around $400-$450 to get into this sport. They have fleets in Palm Beach Florida, Orlando area and the “Villages” up North a couple of hours from here. The Company that manufactures the “Micro Magic” is called Graupner Racing and is located in Sarasota. Let me know if you would like to be an investor in purchasing the first “Micro Magic” sloop…. I would consider a 50/50 partnership!!! A new fleet could be in the works at SSS. Our neighbors at Mote marine may let us race in one of their tanks.. (not, likely).
Enjoy the Squadron and come on out to the “Starting Line”….
