Ft Myers Memorial Weekend Race
PHRF Sailors!!! Here is your chance to enjoy a weekend Get-A-Way!!!!
Low Entry fee, Great Party and enjoy the companionship of fellow sailors!!!
DIYC has been doing a Tampa to Ft Myers coastal race for the last few years. They allowed the multi fleet to start from Sarasota last year but we sail north first to keep the distance equal. They are now willing to allow mono hulls to start from Sarasota this year and sail a shortened course if anyone from SSS is interested. It would be approximately 75 miles and the race starts Friday afternoon on May 26th (Memorial day weekend). They have a great party with awards the following afternoon at Bonita Bills in Ft Myers Beach. It’s a long weekend so everyone can enjoy a nice sail back home. The entry is $60. Let me know if you think there is any interest and I’ll get back to DIYC and let them know. The race’s history dates back to 1946. 2015′s race was held for the first time over Memorial Day weekend. A resurgence of this race had 29 competitors and a commitment from many more to race in 2017. This 100 mile coastal race has everything from a J-24 to 40′+ footers on the course. Of course, the destination is fabulous finishing at Ft Myers Beach – one of the remaining “old Florida” beach towns. ALL competitors compete for the Navigator’s Trophy donated by OH Rogers. It is awarded to the first boat to finish in any class.
